Whitney Wells is excited to be joining the Marble City Opera team as the Administrative Director for their exciting 10th season! In addition to her new role with MCO, Whitney is also a soprano and a voice teacher.
Praised for her "electric, high-energy, [and] sassy portrayals" onstage, Whitney has enjoyed a number of operatic and musical theater roles, with some favorites including Giannetta in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, June Jinkins in Shore's An Embarrassing Position, and Tytania in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream. She has performed locally in different MCO events, in The University of Tennessee Opera Theater productions, as a Knoxville Opera chorus member, and will soon sing with the Amadeus Chamber Ensemble. In addition to stage performances, Whitney has been the soprano soloist for several choral and orchestral concerts, including the world premieres of James Barnes' Symphony No. 9 and Peter Meechan's Dreams Unseen. Most recently, she recorded Meechan's Dreams Unseen with the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Paul Popiel to be released on NAXOS and other music streaming platforms.
As a voice teacher, Whitney finds so much joy in helping others use their voice to make music. She holds a studio of over 30 private students and is also an adjunct lecturer in voice at Johnson University. In her spare time, Whitney is a character actress with Knoxville Princess Parties and enjoys making little one's dreams come true! Whitney holds a Masters in Music from The University of Tennessee and a Bachelors in Music from The University of Kansas.
